Tenochtitlan

the island capital of the Aztec Empire, located where central Mexico City stands today.

What it means

Tenochtitlan was the Mexica capital on Lake Texcoco. It had temples, canals, markets, palaces, causeways, and dense urban neighborhoods. After the Spanish conquest, Mexico City was built over much of the same site.
