By accessing or using Stories of History, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, you must not use the site or any related services.

These terms apply to all visitors, users, account holders and subscribers unless separate written terms expressly apply.

Stories of History is an educational storytelling platform focused on world history, including stories, timelines, figures, places, lineages and related features.

Stories of History is provided for educational and informational purposes. Content may include historical interpretation, summaries, timelines, artistic reconstructions and AI-assisted materials.

We aim to provide useful and accurate educational material, but we do not guarantee that all content is complete, current, error-free or suitable for every purpose.

You may browse public parts of the site without an account where that functionality is offered.

Some features may require you to create an account. When creating an account, you agree to provide accurate information and keep it updated.

When you create an account, you accept that personal data connected with your account may be processed by our approved third-party service providers where necessary to operate, secure, support and improve Stories of History, as described in these terms and our Privacy Policy.

You are responsible for:

• maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials,
• all activity carried out through your account,
• promptly notifying us if you suspect unauthorised access,
• and ensuring your use of the platform complies with these terms.

Stories of History may offer free and paid plans, including premium subscriptions that unlock additional stories, features, lineages or other content.

Pricing, billing frequency, features and availability may change over time. Any specific pricing or subscription details shown at the point of purchase form part of the service arrangement.

If you subscribe to a paid plan, you agree to pay all applicable fees and taxes associated with that plan.

Premium is a digital subscription and access normally starts immediately after successful payment, so you can use paid stories and features right away. Where checkout asks you to confirm immediate access, you are asking us to provide Premium access immediately and acknowledging the cancellation and refund rules shown at purchase and in these terms. This does not limit statutory rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

If your subscription renews automatically, you authorise the relevant payment provider to charge the applicable renewal fee unless you cancel before renewal.

Unless otherwise stated at the point of purchase or required by law:

• subscriptions renew automatically for the same billing period,
• you may cancel future renewals at any time through your account or payment settings where available,
• cancellation stops future renewals but does not usually produce a refund for the current billing period except where the Premium Annual 14-day refund policy applies,
• and access to paid features may continue until the end of the paid period.

If you use a third-party payment provider such as Stripe, payment handling may also be subject to that provider’s terms.

If you need help with billing, cancellation or access, please contact us through the support inbox.

Refunds are handled according to the terms presented at the point of purchase, applicable consumer law, and any specific refund policy we publish.

Self-service cancellation stops future renewals and your Premium access normally continues until the end of the current paid billing period. It does not automatically request a refund.

If you cancel within 14 days of purchase or renewal, you will receive a full refund and your access to Premium features will stop on Day 14. If you cancel more than 14 days after purchase or renewal, your Premium access will continue until the annual term ends, and no refund will be issued. This does not affect any statutory rights you may have under applicable consumer law.

You agree not to misuse Stories of History. In particular, you must not:

• use the site unlawfully or fraudulently,
• attempt to gain unauthorised access to systems, accounts or data,
• interfere with the operation, security or performance of the site,
• copy, scrape, harvest or extract content at scale without permission,
• reverse engineer or attempt to bypass access controls or paywalls,
• use bots or automated tools in a way that harms the platform,
• upload or transmit malicious code or harmful material,
• infringe intellectual property or other rights,
• impersonate another person or misrepresent affiliation,
• or use the platform in a way that could damage, disable or overburden it.

Unless otherwise stated, Stories of History and its original content are protected by copyright, design rights, database rights, trade marks and other intellectual property rights.

This includes, without limitation:

• site design and layout,
• branding and logos,
• original text and narrative structures,
• illustrations and graphic assets,
• interactive features and page composition,
• and curated collections, sequencing and presentation.

Historical facts, dates and other public-domain information are not claimed as exclusive property, but the original presentation and expression of content on the platform may be protected.

Subject to these terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use Stories of History for personal, non-commercial use.

You may not, without prior written permission:

• reproduce substantial parts of the site,
• republish or redistribute paid or restricted content,
• sell or commercially exploit site materials,
• create derivative commercial products from the platform’s original content,
• or systematically download, copy or store content beyond normal personal use.

If you send feedback, suggestions, messages or other submissions to us, you grant us a non-exclusive right to review and use those communications for support, operational, improvement or administrative purposes.

You must not submit unlawful, infringing, confidential or harmful content through the platform.

Stories of History may integrate with or link to third-party services, tools, platforms or websites, including payment, authentication, analytics, hosting or email providers.

If you create an account, subscribe to Premium, receive service emails or use account features, you agree that relevant account and service data may be processed by the following providers for the purposes listed below:

• Supabase, for authentication, account records, profiles, saved progress, subscription state, admin records and database hosting,
• Stripe, for checkout, subscriptions, billing status, payment references, refunds, payment reconciliation and tax/accounting evidence,
• Vercel, for hosting, deployments, runtime infrastructure, logs, security, performance, availability and privacy-focused web analytics,
• CookieYes, for cookie consent management, cookie banner display, consent preference storage and related consent records,
• Sentry, for error monitoring, diagnostics, performance monitoring, issue investigation and platform reliability,
• Google Analytics, when analytics consent is given through CookieYes and Google Consent Mode, for website analytics, measurement, traffic reporting and understanding how visitors use the site,
• Resend, for transactional account emails, notifications, message metadata and delivery events,
• and first-party product analytics stored in Supabase, for content engagement, account, subscription and product improvement metrics.

We do not require you to agree to non-essential analytics cookies as a condition of creating an account. Analytics processing is handled according to our Privacy Policy.

We are not responsible for third-party content, services or policies that are outside our control. Your use of those services may be subject to separate terms and privacy policies.

We may update, modify, suspend, withdraw or discontinue any part of the site or services at any time, with or without notice.

This includes changes to:

• features and functionality,
• story availability,
• premium access,
• pricing and plan structure,
• technical requirements,
• and supported devices or browsers.

We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or that the service will always be free from bugs, delays or errors.

Content on Stories of History reflects educational summaries and interpretations of historical events, people and developments.

History is often debated and subject to differing interpretations. We do not warrant that every account or interpretation on the platform will be complete, definitive or universally accepted.

Stories of History may include original illustrations, AI-assisted artworks and artistic interpretations of historical figures, events and settings.

These are educational and editorial in nature. They are not intended as exact likenesses and do not imply endorsement, affiliation, sponsorship or approval by any individual, estate, institution or organisation.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Stories of History is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis.

We make no guarantee that the site will always be available, secure, error-free, accurate, complete or fit for any particular purpose.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Stories of History and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss or damage arising out of or in connection with your use of the site.

This includes, without limitation, loss of data, loss of revenue, loss of profits, business interruption, reputational harm, or reliance on content presented through the platform.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under applicable law.

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Stories of History, its operators and related parties from claims, liabilities, damages, losses and expenses arising from your breach of these terms, misuse of the platform, or infringement of another person’s rights.

We may suspend or terminate your access, account or subscription if we reasonably believe you have breached these terms, misused the platform, created legal or security risk, or where continued access is no longer commercially or technically feasible.

We may also remove or restrict access to content or features at our discretion where appropriate.

Use of personal data is governed by our Privacy Policy. By using Stories of History, you acknowledge that personal data may be processed as described there.

Account holders must accept these terms and the Privacy Policy before creating an account. This includes acknowledging that approved processors may handle the minimum personal data needed for account operation, payment processing, hosting, security, support, transactional email and analytics where applicable.

We may revise these Terms of Use from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised date.

Continued use of the site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, unless mandatory local consumer law requires otherwise.

Subject to applicable law, disputes arising out of or in connection with these terms shall be subject to the courts of England and Wales.
